AMA offers online series to educate physicians on controversies and challenges in health
The American Medical Association (AMA) has developed on online series of programs to provide physicians with strategies to better address the needs of vulnerable populations such as the elderly, racial and ethnic minority patients, and those with low incomes.
Six modules in this online series, Educating Physicians on Controversies and Challenges in Health, offer "AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™":
- Universal HIV Screening and Reducing HIV Disparities,
- Self Management Strategies for Vulnerable Populations,
- Use of Complementary and Alternative Treatment by Patients,
- Preparing your Practice to Address Family Violence,
- Connecting Patients to Community Resources, and

The AMA recently launched a new online continuing medical education (CME) portal that offers a broad range of certified educational programs for primary care physicians on the diagnosis, management and treatment of depression, Parkinson's disease and type 2 diabetes. Each tract consists of video webcasts with clinical exchanges between primary care physicians and key medical specialty leaders, and slide presentations with audiocasts. Developed under the direction of expert advisory boards, each program has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™—and can be accessed with a few clicks of a mouse.
